PRESS RELEASE: Princess Alli Foundation to deliver 160 care packages to Sparrow Hospital this Thanksgiving

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Princess Alli Foundation to deliver 160 care packages to Sparrow Hospital this Thanksgiving

Lansing, MI – Princess Alli Foundation will be providing care packages to 160 pediatric families at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, MI this Thanksgiving weekend. Each care package will provide much-needed food and toiletry items to caregivers, which typically includes one or both of the parents of the patient, to ensure their basic nutrition and hygiene needs are met.

Says Melanie Russcher, Founder and CEO of Princess Alli Foundation: “It is not uncommon for caregivers to remain at the bedside of their child for the duration of their hospital stay, more often than not missing meals. We are happy to partner with the community to ensure these families are taken care of this holiday season.” Sponsors for this year’s event include Meijer of Charlotte, MI, Katranji Hand Clinic of East Lansing, MI, and Flushing United Methodist Church of Flushing, MI.

Princess Alli Foundation is a 501(c)(3) public charity that was founded in April 2015 to support the families of children with illnesses in memory of Allison Ruth Russcher. Since first beginning its Care Package Project in May, the Olivet, MI based nonprofit has provided more than 1,100 food and toiletry care packages to pediatric families at Sparrow Hospital. It is currently raising funds to expand its services to the families of Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI by early 2016.

Help Us Bring the Holidays to the Hospital

This year, the Princess Alli Foundation wants to bring the holidays to the hospital through a Holiday Care Package Campaign!

Bring the Holidays to the Hospital

{Click Here for a printable flyer}

Having an inpatient child is very hard. Being inpatient over the holidays is even harder. This year, we would like to provide care packages to Sparrow Hospital families for the entire Thanksgiving weekend and all of Christmas Week – ELEVEN DAYS TOTAL!

We’d like these care packages to be extra special to help bring the holidays to the hospital for these families. We will be providing warm food choices, festive treats, and small gifts in all care packages.

We are looking for families, groups, or businesses that are willing to partner with us to make this dream a reality!

Full day sponsorships (40 bags) are $100. Half sponsorships (20 bags) are $50. Both options are available for purchase through our secure online store.

CRAFTERS: We will also be posting opportunities on Facebook for you to donate your skills towards holiday gifts as we continue planning for these care packages. Feel free to contact us if you have suggestions or would like to be involved in the planning process.

Supporting Families: The First Two Weeks

It’s been two weeks since the Princess Alli Foundation began supporting families at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, MI.  What an amazing experience these first two weeks have been!

supporting families: the first two weeks
First care packages ready to go!

On May 6 we delivered our first 40 care packages.  Our RNICU families received water bottles, granola bars, peanuts, a pack of gum, and gel window clings to decorate the cribs and isolettes.  We also provided a basket full of toiletries for the moms that spend their days in the unit with their newborns.

PEDS and PICU families received granola bars, peanuts and gum in their bags.  Why the difference?  PEDS and PICU families have access to “pantries” that Sparrow Hospital generously stocks for them.  These pantries include crackers, juice, milk, and coffee, as well as easy access to ice and water.

On May 13 we were able to provide another 40 care packages – completely stocked by donations!

Our RNICU families received granola bars, cookies or crackers, mints, water bottles, and more cute clings this week, and we restocked the toiletry basket.

Adding treats!

PEDS an PICU families received granola bars and mints in their bags, and thanks to our generous donors, each family received a microwavable bowl of soup or mac and cheese to supplement a meal!

Care packages ready to go out on May 13!

In these first two weeks we have also been able to bring our website online, have filed our articles of incorporation with the State of Michigan, and have received our first feedback from the hospital.  It is amazing to see Allison’s legacy taking shape – we couldn’t do it without you.

Please keep your donations coming!  You are helping to make a big difference in the lives of these families!

Love,

Melanie
