50 States Challenge

To raise awareness of the need for more resources for families at children’s hospitals. we’re sending boxes of our toiletry care packages to hospitals in each of the 50 states! It is our hope that these care packages will not only help families at each hospital, but will also spark conversations within your local community about increasing long-term support for the families of children with illnesses.

If you’ve received one of our 50 States Challenge care packages, please take a minute to leave a quick comment with your location on our Facebook Page to help us show the need for food and toiletries to be readily accessible for families during hospital stays.

Get Involved

SPREAD THE WORD!

One of the easiest ways you can get involved is to spread the word about our project and the need to support inpatient families!  One of the most common things we hear from the families we support is how they didn’t understand how hard it was to live through a hospital stay until they lived through one!  We hope that the 50 States Challenge will help spark conversations within each community we reach about increasing long-term support for the families of children with illnesses.

SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL HOSPITAL

[Click here for a printable version of these lists!]

When a family has a sick or injured child it is common for one of the parents to stay in the hospital with them. These parents often lack basic hygiene items and skip meals which can impact their ability to advocate for their child. Your group or organization can have a huge impact on families during their inpatient stays by putting together simple food and toiletry care packages for your local hospital.

Here are lists of our favorite items to donate. Please contact your local hospital’s child life department for restrictions and to schedule your delivery.

Toiletry Items: Items must be new/unopened and should be individually wrapped. Travel/hotel size toiletries work best!

  • Wrapped toothbrushes
  • Toothpaste
  • Shampoo & conditioner
  • Bar soap or body wash
  • Small combs
  • Deodorant
  • Feminine hygiene items

Snack Items: Items should be store-bought and must be individually wrapped.

  • Granola bars
  • Cookies, crackers, and chips
  • Bottle water
  • Chocolate
  • Oatmeal packets
  • Chocolate
  • Gum or mints
  • Microwavable soups or pastas

We’d love to hear about your project!
